The History of Dairy Kastle

Some see Dairy Kastle and think to themselves,
"that Dairy Kastle building has been sitting on the corner of Eastern Parkway
since I can remember." For many Dairy Kastle has been there before they were
born. At Thirty-Three Years Old Dairy Kastle is one of the oldest standing
privately owned soft-serve ice cream vendors in the area.
Dairy Kastle began in 1974 under the co-ownership of
Bob Humphrey and Paul Taylor. Together they owned Dairy Kastle for a decade,
but during the mid eighties Mr. Humphrey became sole owner by purchasing Paul's share.
Mr. Humphrey owned Dairy Kastle through the 2000 season. In Janurary of 2001,
Dairy Kastle came under ownership of George Hayden. Mr. Hayden is
the current owner of Dairy Kastle and works hard to maintain the dynasty.
Over the years Dairy Kastle has grown tremendously, from serving only two falvors of ice cream
to three flavors. Additionaly, Dairy Kastle now offers no-fat/no sugar added yogurt. The menu has been
expanded by four times the original ammount of items. Dairy Kastle went from only having chili dogs and a taco-in-bag, to
snacks like the Nacho Supreme and the handmade brat. Even with these newer exciting items, the chili dog remains a top seller.
Made with the original owners' recipe. Some changes have occured, but the majority of the items and recipes stay the same.
Dairy Kastle has survived through the years and maybe its because of its atmosphere.
The neighborhood ice cream shop where one can go with friends and family for a treat after
a hard day and take a seat under the shade of a big tree. Or maybe its the price that comes along with
taking you back to feeling like your a child.
